Bulldogs' Lanter Named SoCon Player Of The Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Samford soccer player Paige Lanter was honored by the Southern Conference on Friday as she was named the SoCon Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office. The Bulldogs' senior defender scored a pair of goals in Samford's 3-0 conference victory at Chattanooga on Wednesday.

Lanter, the Bulldogs' speedy native of Hixson, Tenn., scored both of her goals in the second half of play as the decisive scores occurred only 3:22 apart from each other. Lanter only attempted two shots Wednesday, but both found the back of the net. Her first goal was scored at 46:34 into the match and then her second goal occurred at 49:56.

So far this season, Lanter has come up from her defender position to score three goals and add a pair of assists.

Other Nominees this week for SoCon Player of the Week were Lauren Hein (UNC Greensboro), Caitlin Williams (Western Carolina) and Sara Oland (Georgia Southern).

The Samford University soccer team will next be in action Sunday at 6 p.m. (CDT) as the second-seeded Bulldogs play host to the seventh-seeded Davidson Wildcats in the opening round of the 2010 SoCon Tournament to be held in the final match at Bulldog Field.
