The Samford men's golf team placed ninth in the Hummingbird Invitational, hosted by Western Carolina on Monday and Tuesday. The Bulldogs shot a team total of 585 (294-291) for the two-day event.
Jacksonville University (563) earned the tournament championship. Vanderbilt (569), Kentucky (573), Furman (574) and Gardner Webb (574) rounded out the top five in the tournament. Samford finished in a tie with cross-town rival UAB for ninth place.
Individually, Samford was led by sophomore Casey O'Toole, who finished in a tie for 13th overall with a final score of 143, firing individual rounds of 72 and 71 on the par-71 course.
Samford's second-lowest score was shot by senior Martin Bunt. He shot a 145 (72-73), tying him for 23rd in the tournament. Sophomore Gabe Hyde shot a 147 (74-73), placing him in a tie for 33rd overall.
Sophomore Bill Nabors shot a 152 (78-74), tying him for 65th in the tournament. Sophomore Drew Aimone fired a 156 (76-80), finishing in a tie for 87th place.
Adam Hofmann from Vanderbilt won the individual tournament title, shooting a 135 (66-69). Stephen Healy of Jacksonville and Matt Nagy of Kennesaw State tied for second, both shooting 137.
The tournament concludes the fall season for the Bulldogs. The team will open the spring season at the Francis Marion Invitational, Feb. 21-22.
