Bryce Smith Named AP All-American

Dec. 15, 2010

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Samford senior linebacker Bryce Smith was named a second-team All-American by the Associated Press, when the organization released its Football Championship Subdivision postseason teams on Wednesday.

Smith led the SoCon and ranked eighth in the nation in total tackles with 129 this season. He also led the nation in solo tackles with 85, marking the second-consecutive season he has led the nation in that category. He has led Samford in tackles for three-straight seasons.

As a senior, Smith tallied 10 or more tackles in seven of Samford's 11 games, including a career-high 17 stops against Elon. He had 9.5 tackles for a loss and one interception in his final season in a Samford uniform.

Smith, who is a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, was also named first-team All-Southern Conference by both the league's coaches and media for the second year in a row following his stellar senior season.

Smith, a native of Lawrenceville, Ga., finished his Samford career with 330 tackles, including 243 solo stops. He also had 27.5 tackles for a loss and 10 interceptions in four seasons at Samford.
