Women's Tennis Cruises To 7-0 Win Against Jacksonville State

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford University women's tennis team extended its season-opening winning streak to three-consecutive matches Wednesday as the Bulldogs earned a 7-0 victory against the Jacksonville State Gamecocks at the Samford Tennis Center.

With its victory, Samford (3-0) remained undefeated on the season and improved its record at home to 3-0. Prior to Wednesday's triumph, the Bulldogs opened the 2010 campaign with wins against Charlotte 7-0 and Columbus State 6-1. Columbus State entered the season as the eighth-ranked tennis program in Division II.

Against Jacksonville State (0-2), Samford won the doubles points and then received singles victories from Taylor Morgan, Andrie Meiring, Madelie Janse Van Rensburg, Stephanie Parkison, Lindsey Mallory and Rebecca Kirven to breeze to its 7-0 victory.

The Gamecocks earned their lone win of the match in the No. 1 doubles contest. Jacksonville State's tandem comprised of Viviane Marani and Martina Dessbesell topped Samford's pair of Lindsey Mallory and Morgan 8-6. The Bulldogs were able to earn victories on courts No. 2 and No. 3 to claim the doubles point.

The Samford women's tennis team will next be in action Saturday at 9 a.m. (CST) as the Bulldogs square off against the Memphis Tigers in the opening match of a doubleheader to be held in Memphis, Tenn. In its second match of Saturday's doubleheader, Samford is scheduled to square off against Austin Peay at 1 p.m.
