Savannah Hill Named SoCon Player Of The Week

Feb. 23, 2010

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Samford junior forward Savannah Hill was named the Southern Conference's Player of the Week when the league released its weekly women's basketball awards on Tuesday.

In Samford's lone game last week, Hill led the Bulldogs to a 53-42 win at Western Carolina. In the win, Hill scored a career-high 27 points and pulled down six rebounds. She also had one assist and one steal against the Catamounts.

Hill made 12-of-18 shots from the floor against WCU, including being good on her only attempt from the behind the three-point line.

For the season, Hill is second on the team in scoring, averaging 13.1 points per game. She leads the team in rebounding (5.2 rpg.) and assists (3.3 apg.).

This marks the second week in a row a Samford player has received the honor, as Monica Maxwell was named the Player of the Week last week. This is also Hill's second time this season being named Player of the Week, as she received the honor on Nov. 17.

Hill and the Bulldogs will close out the regular season with a game Saturday at Chattanooga. A win by Samford on Saturday would give the Bulldogs a share of their first Southern Conference championship and the top seed in the upcoming SoCon Tournament.

Saturday's game at Chattanooga is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start. The game can be heard locally on WVSU-FM 91.1, or worldwide on the internet at www.samford.edu/wvsu.
