MUFREESBORO, Tenn. ---- The Samford University track and field team continued its success in his second week of action as it won five individual events, broke 13 personal records and one school record at the Middle Tennessee State Invitational Saturday.
The Bulldog men dominated the pole vault again this week after taking the top three spots two weeks ago at the Niswonger Invitational. Samford took six of eight spots in the event while grabbing the top three spots for the second weekend in a row. Patrick Wells won the event with a height of 16-00.00 while Ryan Cook (15-06.00) took second and Zac Epperson (15-00.00) took third. Chas Keithan cleared a personal best of 14-00.00 to grab fifth place while Brandon Bassett cleared the same height to come in sixth. Donald Cooper cleared a personal best of 13-06.00 to take eighth place.
Laura Bedsole recorded a personal best in the women's pole vault with a personal best height of 11-06.00.
Jessica Lucas tied a school record in the women's weight throw with a toss of 37-10.00 while Kyle Kirby broke his own school record set two weeks ago with a toss of 52-01.00 in the men's event.
In the women's high jump, Chenelle Terry took fourth place with a leap of 5-01.00 while Emily Allen grabbed sixth place with a jump of 4-11.00. Allen also placed fourth in the triple jump with leap of 36-03.25. Chas Keithan took second in the men's event with a personal best leap of 6-01.00.
In the men's long jump, Brandon Bassett took seventh place with a jump of 21-03.00 while Elyse Rippe took tenth in the women's event with a jump of 14-08.75.
Christian McGuire took 11th in the women's shot put with a personal best of 30-04.00. Five Bulldog men placed in the men's event beginning with Chris Davis at seventh place with a toss of 45-05.00. Bo Ackerson-Gilroy (37-11.00) and Luke Davis (37-10.00) took 14th and 15th place while Brandon Bassett (34-03.00) grabbed 18th and Donald Cooper (32-07.00) finished in 20th place.
In the women's mile run, Lauren D'Alessio took second place with a time of 5:03.87 followed by Jessica Van Ausdall in third with a personal best time of 5:04.20. Alli Keithan also placed 26th with a personal best of 5:41.93. Cameron Bean won the men's mile with a time of 4:17.60 while Dan Hall placed 19th in the same event with a time of 5:08.23.
Zac Cordner posted a time of 51.13 to place ninth in the 400 meters.
Hillary Neal won the women's 800 meters run with a time of 2:12.75 while Holly Benson took third with a personal best of 2:18.75 and Andrea Nall took 13th with a time of 2:28.91.
In the men's mile, Will Denton finished fifth with a time of 1:55.35 followed by Scott Cope in sixth with a time of 1:55.38.
In the women's 200 meters, Ashley Dance led the Bulldogs with a tenth place time of 26.21. Tatum Moffett took 15th place with a personal best of 26.88 followed by Leslie Graf in 18th place with a time of 27.11. Julie McDonald and McGuire took 21st and 22nd places, respectively, with personal best times of 27.31 and 27.34.
Zac Cordner finished first for the Bulldog men in the 200 meters with a seventh place time of 22.71. Brad Bostic and Bobby Ellison also finished 14th and 15th, respectively, with time of 23.96 and 24.63.
Ina Ables won the women's 3000 meters with a personal best of 10:21.90 while Jillian Klassen recorded a personal best of 10:52.43 to finished 10th place. Christi Gaskill (11:23.57) and Lauren Pilcher (11:30.52) finished 17th and 18th, respectively, while Madison Davis grabbed 21st place with a time of 11:476.03. Blaise Carie took second place in the men's event with a personal best of 8:26.94.
The Samford women took first (3:59.45) and third (4:07.15) in the mile relay while the men took third (3:29.39) and fourth (3:35.67) in the men's event.
"I think the group is rounding in to shape and starting to understand what we are looking for," Samford head coach Rod Tiffin said. "We still have a ways to go but hopefully we will get it all together in time for the conference championship. Coach (Lori) Strand and Coach (Diego) Flaaquer are doing a great job and their groups are really coming together."
The Bulldogs will be back in action next Saturday, Feb. 13, as they head to the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, S.C.
