BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford University men's tennis team was defeated in a hard-fought Southern Conference matchup Saturday against the Furman Paladins at the Samford Tennis Center. The Bulldogs won the doubles point and earned singles wins on courts No. 1 and No. 2 before the Paladins rallied to take the bottom four singles contests.
With the loss, Samford (8-7, 0-4 SoCon) suffered its fifth straight defeat and moved to 5-3 when playing at home this season.
Furman (7-9, 4-0 SoCon) earned its second-consecutive conference victory and remained undefeated in SoCon play this year. The Paladins also improved to 2-4 in road matches.
Samford won the doubles point Saturday as the Bulldogs picked up victories on courts No. 1 and No. 2. In the No. 1 doubles competition, Samford's tandem of Michael Browder and Carson Kadi was triumphant, while the Bulldogs' pairing of Oliver Reynolds and Zac Dunkle tallied the win on court No. 2.
In singles play, Samford's Kadi fought to victory on court No. 1 and Dunkle rallied for a triumph in the No. 2 matchup. Furman then bounced back with singles wins on the bottom four courts to claim the come-from-behind 4-3 victory.
The Samford men's tennis team will next be in action Sunday as the Bulldogs continue their five-match homestand with another key SoCon battle against the Wofford Terriers at the Samford Tennis Center.
