TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ---- The Samford University track and field team set 26 personal bests in the third day of competition at the Alabama Relays. Cameron Bean highlighted the action for the Bulldogs, setting a new school record and taking second place in the 5000 meters with a time of 14:29.33.
With so many freshmen competing, many of them were able to set personal bests in their respective events.
Bobby Ellison ran personal bests of 11.43 in the 100-meter dash and 24.09 in the 200-meter dash while Ramsey White posted personal bests in the 400-meter dash (52.65) and the 800 meters (1:58.94). He placed 16th in the 800 meters with that time. Also running in the 800 meters were Scott Cope who placed seventh with a personal best of 1:54.90, and Will Denton who placed 19th with a 2:00.51.
Dan Hall and Conrad Taylor both set personal bests in the 1500 meters. Hall ran a time of 4:26.90 while Taylor record a time of 4:30.48.
Cavan Corcoran took 11th place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.20 and 14th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 57.48.
Patrick Wells won his second consecutive Alabama Relay pole vault on Saturday with a mark of 16-06.75. Michael Seaman placed second with the same mark which was a personal best for him. Zac Epperson took fifth place with a height of 14-07.25.
Thomas Oliver placed seventh in the javelin with a distance of 185-00 while Ryland Robbins took 11th with a personal best of 162-09.
On the women's side, Leslie Graf (13.09) and Tatum Moffett (13.45) posted personal bests in the 100-meter dash while Julie McDonald posted a personal best of 27.18 in the 200-meter dash. In the 400-meter dash, Ashley Dance posted a time of 59.38 while Moffett (1:00.30) and Graf (1:01.01) posted personal bests.
Holly Benson placed 10th in the 800 meters with a personal best of 2:16.55 while Andrea Nall also posted a personal best of 2:32.76 to take 35th place.
Hillary Neal came in second in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:33.16 followed by Lauren D'Alessio in 10th place with a time of 4:44.00. Jillian Klassen (5:04.27), Christi Gaskill (5:21.86) and Madison Davis (5:22.19) also posted personal bests in the event.
Deanna Zidar ran personal best of 19:25.90 in the 5000 meters while Morgan Tyler (14.36) and McDonald (15-05) posted personal bests in the 100-meter hurdles. Tyler also placed 15th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.65 while Ashley Bridenbaugh ran a personal best of 1:07.56 in the event.
Chenelle Terry placed seventh in the high jump with a personal best of 5-07.00 while Lauren Bedsole took seventh place in the pole vault invitational with a personal best of 11-05.75 while Mary Barron took 10th place with a height of 10-11.75.
Sunday's events begin at 8 a.m., with the men's hammer throw followed at 9:30 a.m., with the women's pole vault collegiate. The relay events start at 11:30 a.m., with the shuttle hurdle relays followed by the 4x100, 4x800, sprint medley, 4x1500, 4x200, distance medley and finally the 4x400 at 3:40 p.m.
