OXFORD, Miss. ---- Hillary Neal and Kyle Kirby highlighted Samford's action in the Ole Miss Invitational Saturday with school records in their respective events. Neal ran a time of 2:09.30 to win the women's 800 meters to pass the record she set as a freshman by eight-tenths of a second. Kirby broke his school record in the hammer throw for the third time this outdoor season with a toss of 175-00 to take ninth place in the event.
Kirby also took 24th place in the men's discus with a toss of 128-06 while Luke Davis posted a personal best of 112-09 to finish in 26th place. Also in the hammer throw, Chris Davis placed 17th with a toss of 132-03.
Holly Benson finished just behind Neal in the 800 meters with a personal best of 2:13.89 while Ashley Bridenbaugh grabbed 28th place with a personal best of 2:25.81. Elyse Rippe took 32nd place with a time of 2:27.44. Rippe also placed 41st in the long jump with a mark of 15-04.00.
Andrea Seccafien ran a personal best of 17:49.26 in the 5000 meters to take third place. Deanna Zidar took 14th place with a personal best of 19:00.69 while Lauren Pilcher placed 17th with a time of 19:19.66 and Lillie Jackson placed 26th with a time of 20:10.56.
Lauren D'Alessio took third place in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:40.97. Alli Keithan (5:00.99) and Madison Davis (5:6.47) ran personal bests in the event to finish 23rd and 38th, respectively.
Christi Gaskill took 10th place in the steeplechase with a personal best of 12:12.27 on her first time running the event.
In the women's 100-meter hurdles, Christian McGuire and Julie McDonald took 26th and 27th places, respectively, with times of 16.14 and 16.15. Emily Allen placed 35th with a time of 17.23. In the 400-meter hurdles, Morgan Tyler came in 10th with a time of 1:02.83.
Ashley Dance placed 23rd in the women's 400-meter dash with a time of 57.89. Dance also placed 40th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 25.89 while Tatum Moffett (26.33), McDonald (26.47), Leslie Graf (26.91) and Allen (26.99) all ran personal bests in the event.
Cameron Bean just missed grabbing his third consecutive school record as he ran 14:47.44 to take second place in the men's 5000 meters.
Blaise Carie placed fourth in the men's 1500 meters with a time of 3:56.75 while Ramsey White took 20th place with a personal best of 4:02.44 and Dan Hall took 40th place with a personal best of 4:21.97.
In the men's 800 meters, Scott Cope took fifth place with a personal best of 1:53.24 while White ran a personal best of 1:56.55 to take 19th place. Will Denton grabbed 20th place with a time of 1:56.67.
Donald Cooper took 21st place in the 100-meter dash with a personal best of 11.03 while Bobby Ellison took 41st place with a time of 11.56. Cavan Corcoran ran a time of 15.11 to take sixth place in the men's 110-meter hurdles. Cooper also took 14th in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal best of 55.13 followed by Corcoran in 15th place with a personal best of 55.55. Chas Keithan also placed 20th with a personal best of 56.21.
Zac Cordner placed 45th in the 200-meter dash with a personal best of 22.72.
In the women's field events, Chenelle Terry took fifth place in the women's high jump with a height of 5:03.25 while Allen placed 18th in the triple jump with a personal best of 36-00.00.
Jessica Lucas placed 16th in the women's javelin with a toss of 113-01 and 26th in the hammer throw with a mark of 111-06.
Laura Bedsole took ninth in the women's pole vault with a mark of 11-05.75 while Mary Barron tied for 10th with a mark of 10-11.75.
In the men's field events, Michael Seaman and Patrick Wells took second and third places, respectively in the pole vault. Seaman tied a personal best of 16-06.75 while Wells posted the same mark. Ryan Cook placed seventh in the event with a personal best of 15-05.00 while Ackerson-Gilroy tied for 11th place with five other competitors with a personal best of 14-11.00. Zac Epperson and Chas Keithan landed in a six-way tie for 17th place with a mark of 14-05.25 which was a personal best for Keithan. Brandon Bassett came in 23rd with a mark of 13-11.25.
In the men's javelin, Ryland Robbins took sixth place with a personal best of 180-05 while Ackerson-Gilroy tied his personal best of 168-08 to finish in 10th place. Keithan took 11th place with a toss of 166-00 while Bassett rounded out the Samford field with a personal best of 152-11 to take 16th place.
Bassett and Ackerson-Gilroy also placed 17th and 19th, respectively, in the long jump. Bassett posted a personal best of 21-04.25 while Ackerson-Gilroy recorded a mark of 20-10.00.
The Samford women finished 12th in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 48.57 while the Samford men took 12th with a time of 42.99. The women took ninth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:52.82 while the men also took ninth in the event with a time of 3:18.79.
Next Saturday, April 17, the Samford track and field team will compete in its final meet before the Southern Conference Outdoor Championships that will be held in Boone, N.C., April 23-24. The Bulldogs will head back to Auburn for the Auburn Invitational.
