Women's Tennis Hangs On For 4-3 SoCon Victory At UNC Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Samford University women's tennis team extended its winning streak to four-consecutive matches Friday as the Bulldogs registered a 4-3 Southern Conference victory on the road against the UNC Greensboro Spartans at the UNCG Tennis Courts.

In the victory, Samford (12-5, 4-1 SoCon) earned the crucial doubles point and then received singles victories from Lindsey Mallory, Andrie Meiring and Taylor Morgan. In retrospect, the most important triumph of the contest occurred at the No. 2 doubles competition where the Bulldogs' tandem of Rebecca Kirven and Meiring rallied for a 9-8 (5) win.

Samford's critical victory in the No. 2 doubles contest clinched the all-important doubles point for the Bulldogs.

Despite falling behind 1-0, UNC Greensboro (7-8, 2-4 SoCon) fought back to earn singles wins on courts No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5.

The Bulldogs' Mallory and Meiring both extended their winning streaks in singles play to four-consecutive matches. Mallory recorded a 6-4, 6-0 victory on court No. 6, while Meiring also tallied a straight-set triumph in the No. 2 singles contest, 6-4, 6-3.

The Samford University women's tennis team will next be in action Saturday at 11 a.m. (CDT) as the Bulldogs conclude their brief two-match road trip against the Elon Phoenix in Elon, N.C.
