Bean, Kirby Shine For Samford At Florida And Auburn

GAINESVILLE, Fla. ---- Cameron Bean and Kyle Kirby highlighted Samford's track and field action on Friday as they each set a new school record in their respective events at the Pepsi Florida Relays and the Auburn Tiger Track Classic.

Bean placed third in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the Pepsi Florida Relays with a time of 9:01.32 in the event. That mark is 36 seconds faster than his previous personal best and five seconds faster than the previous school record set by Andy Bishop in 1998. This is the second consecutive week Bean has set a school record. He broke the Samford record in the 5000 meters last week at the Alabama Relays. Blaise Carie also placed 13th in the event with a time of 9:21.84.

Kirby took fourth place in the hammer throw at the Tiger Track Classic with a school record of 171-03. The mark was three feet and one inch better than the previous record which he set last month at the `Southern Invitational.

Hillary Neal was also a top ten finisher at the Pepsi Florida Relays as she finished seventh in the women's steeplechase with a time of 10:48.80.

Also at the Pepsi Florida Relays, Lauren D'Alessio took 12th place in the 800 meters with a personal best time of 2:14.95. Holly Benson also placed 26th and ran a personal best in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:40.58. In the men's 1500 meters, Scott Cope took 25th place with a personal best of 3:53.77.

Deanna Zidar posted a personal best in the women's 5000 meters with a time of 19:14.96.

In the hurdles, Cavan Corcoran took 33rd place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.93. In the 400-meter hurdles, Donald Cooper placed 34th with a time of 55.91 while Chas Keithan clocked a personal best of 56.56 to finish in 38th place. In the women's 400-meter hurdles, Morgan Tyler placed 34th with a time of 1:05.02.

Thomas Oliver and Ryland Robbins will start Samford's Saturday Pepsi Florida Relays action off with the javelin at 11:30 a.m. Michael Seaman and Patrick Wells will then take on possibly their largest field of competition so far this season in the pole vault. Jessica Lucas will round out Samford's field competition with the women's javelin at 1:30 p.m.

The Samford women will also compete in the 4x200, 4x400 and distance medley relays. The men will take part in the 4x400, 4x110-meter shuttle hurdle and 4x800-meter relays. All relays begin at 12 p.m. and will run through 7:05 p.m.

At the Tiger Track Classic, field events will begin at 11 a.m. with the men's and women's pole vault and will wrap up with the men's and women's shot put and the women's discus. The running events start at 12 p.m. with the women's 4x100-meter relay and will end at 5:45 p.m. with the men's 3000 meters.
