BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford University men's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 4-3 decision against the Chattanooga Mocs Wednesday as the Southern Conference foes squared off at the Samford Tennis Center.

With the loss, Samford (10-9, 2-5 SoCon) had its two-match conference winning streak snapped and closed out its five-match homestand with a 2-3 record. The Bulldogs also moved their record to 7-5 when playing at the Samford Tennis Center this season.

In Saturday's hard-fought defeat, Samford swept all three of the doubles matches, but only picked up singles wins from Zac Dunkle and Oliver Reynolds. Dunkle, the Bulldogs' highly touted true freshman from Atlanta, Ga., defeated Ryan Pool, 7-6 (3), 7-5, in the No. 2 singles contest, while Reynolds knocked off the Mocs' Chris Smith, 6-3, 6-4, on court No. 3.

Dunkle's singles victory extended his winning streak to five-consecutive matches. He now owns an 11-6 mark in dual play this year. Reynolds, the Bulldogs' junior standout improved his singles record to 10-5.

Chattanooga (4-13, 2-7 SoCon) overcame its early 1-0 deficit and fought to its eventual 4-3 victory by earning singles wins on courts No. 1, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6.

The Samford University men's tennis team will next be in action Saturday at 1 p.m. (CDT) as the Bulldogs begin a two-match road trip against the Davidson Wildcats in Davidson, N.C.
