BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
Samford baseball players spent time this week visiting Homewood's Elementary Schools. They read to classes at Shades Cahaba Elementary and Hall Kent Elementary, and participated in PE classes at Edgewood Elementary.
"Children look up to athletes, and it is always a wonderful opportunity for our students to meet and listen to outstanding role models like the Samford baseball players," Merrick Wiedrich, Homewood City Schools Information and Communications Coordinator, said. "It is a treat for the students to meet with them and also valuable for them to hear from college athletes on the importance of how you should work hard in all you do."
Homewood Schools Night is Friday, April 9 when the Samford baseball team takes on UNC Greensboro at 6 p.m. All students and employees will receive free admission to the game.
Homewood Schools Superintendent Dr. Bill Cleveland will throw out the ceremonial first pitch and Homewood eighth grader Raquel Williams will sing the National Anthem.
