Football Begins Working On Florida State

Aug. 25, 2010

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford football team practiced twice on Wednesday at Seibert Stadium. The Bulldogs practiced for about two hours in shells in the morning and then again for about an hour and a half in shells in the afternoon.

Samford head coach Pat Sullivan said the Bulldogs began working on the game plan for the team's season-opener at Florida State. He said working on the game plan made the practice a mental workout as well as physical.

"They're thinking a little bit," Sullivan said. "And things are a little different than in earlier practices."

Sullivan praised the work of the team's kickers during the afternoon workout.

"I did think our kicking practice was a little better today," Sullivan said. "That was probably the highlight of the day. This was one of the better kicking practices we've had. (Place-kicker) Cameron Yaw kicked the ball well. (Punter) Bob Hooper punted the ball well and (punter) Greg Peranich for a freshman did some good things."

Wednesday's practices marked the final two-a-day session for the Bulldogs of preseason camp.

"We have to cut back a little bit," Sullivan said. "We'll start trying to get them a little fresher both mentally and physically."

The Bulldogs will practice again Thursday morning. The practice, which will be in full pads, is scheduled to begin at 9:10 a.m. at Seibert Stadium.

Samford opens the 2010 season on Sept. 4, when the Bulldogs play at Florida State. The game is scheduled for an 11 a.m. (CT) start and will be televised live on ESPNU.
