Volleyball Falls To Arkansas State In Five Sets

HOUSTON - The Samford volleyball team dropped its final match of the Rice Invitational II Saturday in five sets to Arkansas State. The Bulldogs (6-8) won the first two sets, 25-21 and 25-23, but the Red Wolves (6-6) mounted a comeback and won three straight (25-19, 25-14, 15-9) to capture the match win.

Lyndsey Holt led the Bulldogs and posted her second double-double of the season with 15 kills and 12 digs while hitting .414. Elizabeth Neisler followed with 12 kills and two digs while Lauren Hutchinson added 11 kills, two digs and four block assists. Allie Bettinger and Katie Murphy each posted 10 kills. Bettinger also added three digs, three block assists and a solo block while Murphy added two solo blocks and a block assist.

Hillary Fountain posted a double-double with 47 assists and 14 digs while also adding one kill, one ace and two block assists. Alexis Bauer, who was named to the All-Tournament team at the conclusion of the match, led the back row with 21 digs while also grabbing four assists. Samantha Bland had nine digs, an assist and an ace. Casey Garvey had five digs, two assists and two aces.

The Red Wolves were led by Cayla Fielder, who had 16 kills and hit .536. Jasmine Terry followed with 14 kills and six blocks while Sadie Clark added 10 kills and 10 digs. Allison Kearney posted 45 assists and nine digs while Megan Baska led her team with 14 digs.

The Bulldogs kick off Southern Conference play next weekend as they travel to UNC Greensboro and Elon.
