WBB Wraps Up Homestand With Georgia Southern Monday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford women's basketball team will play host to the Georgia Southern Eagles in a Southern Conference contest Monday evening at 7 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center.

Samford and Georgia Southern are meeting for the sixth time, with Samford holding a 4-1 advantage in the series. The teams last met on Dec. 20, 2010, in Statesboro, Ga. The Eagles defeated the Bulldogs by a score of 67-66.

Samford enters the game with a record of 15-6 overall and 8-4 in Southern Conference games. The Bulldogs are coming off a 78-48 win over College of Charleston on Saturday.

Samford is led statistically by seniors Emily London and Savannah Hill. London leads the team in scoring (15.0 ppg.) and is second in both rebounding (4.1 rpg.) and assists (67). Hill ranks second on the squad in scoring (12.2 ppg.) and she leads the team in both rebounding (5.8 rpg.) and assists (81).

London also leads the nation in free-throw percentage, making 96.7 percent of her attempts and she ranks fifth in the nation in three-point field goals percentage, making 46.2 percent of her attempts from beyond the arc.

For their careers, London and Hill currently rank second and third, respectively, on Samford's all-time scoring list. London has scored 1,540 points in her Samford career, while Hill has 1,391 career points. The Samford career scoring record is 1,603 held by Alex Munday (2003-08).

Samford junior Paige Anderson is third on the squad in scoring with an average of 7.5 points per game, while junior Ruth Ketcham and sophomore Hannah Dawson are scoring 7.3 points per game each. Freshman Shelby Campbell is third on the squad in assists with 40 so far this season.

Georgia Southern is currently 9-12 overall and 6-6 in league play. The Eagles are coming off a 57-41 win over Wofford on Jan. 24.

Georgia Southern is led in scoring by Jamie Navarro, averaging 12.2 points per game. Meredyth Frye averages 11.3 points per game for the Eagles. Krista Tate leads GSU in rebounding, pulling down 6.6 rebounds per game. Frye is second on the team in rebounding with an average of 5.4 per game. Navarro leads the team in assists with 60 so far this season. Tate ranks second on the squad in assists, dishing out 53.
