BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- Samford junior Lauren D'Alessio has been named the SoCon Women's Runner of the Week, announced by the league office Wednesday. She earned the honor thanks to a fifth-place showing at this past weekend's Greater Louisville Classic.

D'Alessio finished fifth overall in the 5k gold heat in Louisville, Ky., crossing the line at 17:06.47, which leads the conference. She has led the team in every meet so far this season, including first-place finishes at the Auburn Invitational and the Samford/UAB Dual Meet.

The cross country teams resume competition on Saturday, Oct. 15 when they head to Tuscaloosa, Ala., for the Alabama Crimson Classic.
