WBB To Play In UAB Thanksgiving Classic This Weekend

Game Notes--UAB Thanksgiving Classic

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford women's basketball team will compete in the UAB Thanksgiving Classic this weekend at Bartow Arena. The Bulldogs will take on Western Kentucky Friday at 3:30 p.m., and then they will play Southeast Missouri Saturday at 2 p.m.

Samford enters the tournament with a record of 2-1 on the young season. The Bulldogs are coming off a 62-51 win at Alabama State on Nov. 16.

The Bulldogs are led in scoring by Shelby Campbell, averaging 11.0 points per game. Ruth Ketcham is scoring 9.3 points per game, while Jazmine Powers is averaging 9.0 points per contest.

Hannah Dawson leads the Bulldogs in rebounding, pulling down 5.0 boards per contest. Ketcham is second on the squad in rebounding, with an average of 4.3 rebounds per game, while Powers is averaging 4.0 rebounds per game.

Powers leads the Bulldogs in assists, with an average of 5.0 per game. Paige Anderson is second in assists, dishing out 2.7 per game, while Ketcham comes in third with an average of 1.7 assists per game.

Western Kentucky is currently 0-4. The Lady Toppers are coming off an 86-66 loss to Wright State Tuesday night.

Western Kentucky is led offensively by LaTeira Owens, scoring 12.3 points per game. Danay Fothergill is scoring 9.5 points per game for the Lady Toppers. Owens also leads WKU in rebounding, pulling down 9.5 boards per contest. Alexis Govan leads WKU in assists, with an average of 3.5 per game.

Southeast Missouri enters the tournament with a record of 0-4. The Redhawks are coming off a 51-43 loss at home to Ole Miss Monday evening.

SEMO is led in scoring by Bailie Roberts with an average of 12.0 points per game, while Bianca Beck has an average of 5.8 points per game. Roberts and Courtney Shiffer share the team lead in rebounding, pulling down 5.8 boards per contest. Beck leads the team in assists, with an average of 2.0 per game.

Samford and Western Kentucky will be meeting for the first time in Friday's opening round of the UAB Thanksgiving Classic.

Samford and Southeast Missouri will be meeting for the 14th time, with SEMO holding a 10-3 advantage in the series. The majority of the previous meetings came when Samford was a member of the Ohio Valley Conference from 2003 to 2008. The last time the two teams met was on Feb. 28, 2008, with Samford winning at SEMO, 73-50.
