Paige Anderson Named SoCon Player Of The Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Samford senior guard Paige Anderson was named the Southern Conference's Player of the Week when the league released its weekly women's basketball awards on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs went 1-1 last week at the UAB Thanksgiving Classic. Samford narrowly lost to Western Kentucky (58-57) but defeated Southeast Missouri (63-58).

On Friday, Anderson led Samford with 13 points against Western Kentucky and recorded career highs in points (20) and rebounds (9) Saturday against Southeast Missouri.

The senior guard from Spring Garden, Ala., recorded 33 points, 12 rebounds and two steals in her 58 minutes of action during the UAB Thanksgiving Classic. She also made 15 of her 17 free-throw attempts in the tournament.

For the season, Anderson is leading the team in scoring, with an average of 11.6 points per game. She also ranks second on the squad in both rebounding and assists. Anderson pulls down 4.2 rebounds per contest and she dishes out 2.0 assists per game.

Samford will entertain in-state rival Jacksonville State for the Bulldogs' home opener Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs will then go back on the road to begin league play at UNC Greensboro and Elon this weekend.
