WBB To Host Jax State Wednesday Night

Game Notes--Jacksonville State Game

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford women's basketball team will play host to in-state rival Jacksonville State Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center.

Samford enters the game with a record of 3-2 after splitting two games in the UAB Thanksgiving Classic over the weekend. Samford lost to Western Kentucky, 58-57, before defeating Southeast Missouri, 63-58.

Samford is led in scoring by senior guard Paige Anderson, averaging 11.6 points per game. Anderson was named the Southern Conference's Player of the Week after scoring a career-high 20 points and pulling down a career-high nine rebounds in last Saturday's 63-58 win over Southeast Missouri.

Behind Anderson for Samford, sophomore guard Shelby Campbell is second on the squad in scoring, with an average of 10.4 points per game. Senior guard Jazmine Powers is averaging 9.4 points per game.

Junior forward Hannah Dawson leads Samford in rebounding, pulling down 4.4 boards per contest. Anderson and fellow senior Ruth Ketcham are tied for second in the category, with an average of 4.2 rebounds per game.

Powers is the team leader in assists, dishing out 3.6 per game. Anderson is second on the squad in assists, with an average of 2.0 assists per game.

Jacksonville State is currently 2-5 after falling to Southern Mississippi (75-58) and Georgia Southern (72-49) in the Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic in Hattiesburg, Miss.

JSU is led in scoring and rebounding Danielle Vaughn, averaging 12.1 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. Destiny Lane is scoring 12.0 points per game, while Briana Morrow averages 10.2 points per game.

Behind Vaughn in rebounding, Morrow pulls down 7.5 boards per contest. Lane is averaging 6.3 rebounds per game.

Samford and Jacksonville State are meeting for the 29th time, with Samford holding a 15-13 advantage in the series. The teams last met on Nov. 23, 2010, with Samford defeating Jacksonville State by a score of 66-52, in Jacksonville's Pete Mathews Coliseum. Samford has won the last four meetings in a row, and nine of the last 10 meetings in the series.
