BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford women's basketball team will play host to the Davidson Wildcats for Samford's Pink Zone game Monday evening at 7 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center.
Samford and Davidson will be meeting for the sixth time, with Samford holding a 3-2 advantage in the series. Earlier this season, the two teams met on Jan. 16 in Davidson, N.C., with Davidson coming away with a 71-62 come-from-behind win.
Samford enters the game with a record of 19-7 overall and 12-5 in SoCon games. The Bulldogs are coming off a 61-53 loss to Appalachian State on Saturday.
Samford is led statistically by seniors Emily London and Savannah Hill, who will be playing their final regular-season game in the Pete Hanna Center Monday evening. London leads the Bulldogs in scoring, averaging 15.5 points per game. Hill is second in scoring with an average of 12.0 points per game.
Hill leads the team in rebounds (6.3 rpg.) and assists (107). London ranks second in both categories, averaging 4.0 rebounds per game and dishing out 75 assists.
Junior Paige Anderson ranks third on the team in scoring, averaging 7.8 points per game. Sophomore Hannah Dawson is averaging 7.2 points per game, while junior Ruth Ketcham scores 7.1 points per contest.
Davidson is currently 11-14 overall and 6-10 in league play. The Wildcats are coming off a 91-70 loss at Chattanooga on Saturday.
Davidson is led in scoring by Sophia Aleksandravicius, averaging 17.5 points per game. Laura Murray is scoring 11.6 points per game for the Wildcats. Aleksandravicius also leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 8.5 rebounds per game. Kristen Johnsen pulls down 5.8 boards per contest. Barbara Sitton is the team leader in assists with 98 so far this season. Murray is second in assists with 63 for the Wildcats.
Admission is free to the game and the athletics department is running several promotions for the Pink Zone event, which is held to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research.
The pink jerseys, which the players will wear during the game, will be auctioned. Luminary dedications are available for a donation of $2. The luminaries will be used to light the walkway to the Hanna Center the night of the game. Luminaries can be purchased in the Samford athletics office.
The first 1,000 fans at the game will receive a pink shaker, and special pink Samford cups will be available at the game with unlimited re-fills for just $1. Samford's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will also be selling pink t-shirts and silly bands. Samford cheerleaders will be doing Backflips for Breast Cancer, where each cheerleader will raise money for each backflip they do during a five-minute period.
Samford will also be hosting a Breast Cancer Survivor Dinner prior to the game. The dinner will begin at 6 p.m. in the Hospitality Suite in the Pete Hanna Center. Food will be provided by Piggly Wiggly. The special guest speaker will be Thelma Brown, who works with the Susan G. Komen For the Cure's Worship in Pink program.
All of the proceeds from the event will go to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
