The Samford women's basketball team earned its seventh-straight win in a 68-48 Southern Conference victory Monday evening at Wofford in Benjamin Johnson Arena.
"I thought defensively we were really solid and that gives you the chance to win games on the road," Samford head coach Mike Morris said. "We forced them into 26 turnovers, which I think was the key from the defensive end, and we hit a stretch midway through the first half that we really shot the ball well."
All 13 players on the Samford roster played and 12 of those players scored. Samford was led in scoring by Emily London with 13 points. Hannah Dawson and Paige Anderson scored nine points each. Savannah Hill added eight points for the Bulldogs.
As a team, Samford shot 54.2 percent from the floor, while holding Wofford to just 38.8 percent. Samford had 16 steals, with Wofford turning the ball over 26 times.
For Wofford, April Moorhouse and Mahagony Williams scored 11 points each. Logan Morris added eight points for the Terriers.
Samford jumped out to an early 5-2 lead with 18:57 to go in the first half on back-to-back baskets by Dawson. Wofford came back to tie the score at 7-7 with 17:03 left in the opening half.
Samford then went on a 9-0 run to take a 16-7 lead with 13:22 to go in the first half following a basket by Shelby Campbell. Wofford fought back to cut the Samford lead to five at 18-13. Samford, however, answered with a 12-0 run to push its lead to 30-13 with 7:00 left in the first half after a pair of free throws by Ruth Ketcham.
Wofford cut the Samford lead to 14 at 36-22 with 3:00 left in the opening half. Samford took a 40-24 lead into halftime.
After Wofford cut the Samford lead to 11 at 40-29 early in the second half, Samford went on a 12-0 run to push its lead to 23 at 52-29 with16:52 to go following a three-pointer by Anderson.
Wofford cut the lead to 19 at 52-33, but Samford answered with a 7-0 run to take a 26-point lead at 59-33 with 8:59 left after a layup by Jazmine Powers. Wofford could get no closer than 20 points the rest of the way as Samford came away with the 68-48 win.
With the win, Samford improves to 19-6 overall and 12-4 in Southern Conference play. Wofford drops to 6-15 overall and 2-11 in league play.
Samford will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 12, when the Bulldogs play host to Appalachian State. The game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start from the Pete Hanna Center.
