BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford University women's tennis team picked up a momentous Southern Conference victory Sunday as the Bulldogs registered a 7-0 win against the Wofford Terriers in a conference showdown held at the Samford Tennis Center.
With the victory, Samford (11-3, 3-2 SoCon) improved its record at home this season to 7-1. The Bulldogs lone loss in Birmingham this year was a hard-fought 4-3 setback against Furman on Saturday.
In Sunday's shutout win versus Wofford (10-9, 2-3 SoCon), Samford was victorious in all nine matches. The Bulldogs swept the three doubles contests and then earned wins in all six singles matches.
Samford's Andrie Meiring, Kristin Lewis, Lindsey Mallory and Jessica Diamond were all victorious in straight-set singles contests, while the Bulldogs' Taylor Morgan and Madelie Janse Van Rensburg both notched three-set triumphs on courts No. 1 and No. 3, respectively.
With her dominant 6-0, 6-1 victory on court No. 5, Samford's Lindsey Mallory extended her winning streak to nine-consecutive matches and improved her record in singles play to 10-1 this season. Janse Van Rensburg also upped her singles mark to 12-1 this season while both Lewis and Meiring moved to 12-2.
In doubles play, the Bulldogs' combinations of Lindsey Mallory and Morgan, and Rebecca Kirven and Meiring were both victorious Sunday to improve their team-best records this season to 9-5.
The Samford University women's tennis team will next be in action Thursday at 1 p.m. (CDT) as the Bulldogs begin play in a non-conference doubleheader against both Columbus State and Abilene Christian to be held at the Samford Tennis Center. Following Samford's 1 p.m., matchup against Columbus State, the Bulldogs are scheduled to face Abilene Christian at 4 p.m.
