Bulldogs Take Ninth Place At 2011 Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Samford University men's golf team closed out play in its regular-season schedule Tuesday with a ninth-place finish at the 23rd Annual Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational being held at The Country Club of Spartanburg. The Bulldogs carded a total score of 306 on Tuesday to close out the 15-team event with a 54-hole mark of 886 (291-289-306).

East Tennessee State turned in the best round of the day Tuesday to rally for its second straight team title at the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational. East Tennessee State entered the final round of competition in a tie for second place, but fired a Tuesday-best score of 284 to win the championship. East Tennessee State finished the event with a 54-hole mark of 858 (289-285-284).

Richmond placed second with a three-round tally of 863 (279-284-300), while Campbell (292-282-296=870), Charleston Southern (287-291-298=876) and host school Wofford (302-279-297=878) rounded out the top five at the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational.

Individually, Samford's Bill Nabors carded a 1-over-par 73 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for fifth place. The Bulldogs' sophomore from Decatur, Ala., concluded the tournament with a 54-hole score 2-under-par 214 (71-70-73). Fellow sophomore Drew Aimone turned in Samford's second best score of the weekend as he earned a 20th-place finish with a three-round tally of 3-over-par 219 (71-77-71).

The Bulldogs' Casey O'Toole closed out the tournament with a 54-hole score of 229 (74-73-82), while senior Tyler Baird carded a 230 (75-75-80) and Samford sophomore Gaby Hyde turned in a three-round mark of 232 (79-71-82).

Charleston Southern's Jacobo Pastor won the individual medalist title Tuesday as he closed out the 2011 Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational with a final-round score of 1-under-par 71. Pastor finished the two-day event with a total score of 6-under-par 210 and bested second-place performers Lucas Armstrong of East Tennessee State and Nick Austin of Richmond by two strokes.

The Samford University men's golf team will next be in action Sunday as the Bulldogs begin play in the all-important 2011 Southern Conference Championships which will be held April 17-19 at the Country Club of South Carolina in Florence, S.C. The winner of the SoCon Championships will earn the conference's automatic bid to the prestigious 2011 NCAA Championships.
