Baseball To Play At Auburn Tuesday Night

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford baseball team will travel to Auburn, Ala., to take on the Auburn Tigers Tuesday evening. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start from Plainsman Park.

The Bulldogs enter Tuesday night's game with a record of 24-17 overall and 12-9 in Southern Conference play after dropping two-of-three games to UNC Greensboro over the weekend. Samford won the first game, 7-5, before falling in the last two contests, 4-1 in 10 innings and 5-3.

Samford is led at the plate by Phillip Ervin, batting .379 (53-of-140) with 10 doubles and 20 RBI. Saxon Butler is batting .346 (54-of-156) with seven home runs and a team-high 41 RBI. Brandon Miller leads the team and is tied for second in the SoCon in home runs with 15.

Samford will start either Josh Martin or C.K. Irby, both right-handed pitchers, on the mound against Auburn. Martin has a record of 2-1 and a 4.91 ERA so far this season. Irby has posted a record of 3-1 and a 2.08 ERA in his first season in a Samford uniform.

The Tigers currently have a record of 22-17 overall and 9-9 in the Southeastern Conference after winning two-of-three games from Ole Miss over the weekend. Auburn won the first and third games, 6-3 and 9-7, and fell in the second game, 10-7.

Auburn is led offensively by Casey McElroy, batting .352 (56-of-159) with six home runs and a team-high 40 RBI. Dan Gamache is batting .319 (45-of-141) with three home runs and 23 RBI. The Tigers' leading home run hitter is Kevin Patterson with seven.

The Tigers have listed right-hander Andrew Morris as their starting pitcher for Tuesday night's game. Morris has a record of 1-2 and a 5.62 ERA so far this season.

Samford and Auburn have met 68 previous times, with Auburn holding a 54-14 advantage in the series. Under head coach Casey Dunn, Samford has a record of 5-8 against Auburn. Last season, Auburn won both meetings, taking the game in Birmingham, 10-3, and the meeting in Auburn by a score of 11-4.
