SPARTANBURG, S.C. ---- Samford pole vaulter Michael Seaman has been named the Southern Conference Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Month for the month of March, announced the league office on Thursday. The athletes of the month are nominated by each member institution and selected by the conference offic
"I think this is a well-deserved honor," Samford head coach Rod Tiffin said. "He has had a great start to the outdoor season and is about a month ahead of his training with his performances, so we are really looking for big things from him for the rest of the season."
Seaman, a junior from Bardstown, Ky., won the pole vault event in the first meet of the month at the `Southern Invitational hosted by Birmingham-Southern College. At the `Southern Invitational, Seaman set the meet record with a height of 16-10.75. He proceeded to improve on his conference-leading mark in the pole vault at the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, Ala., last weekend. Seaman claimed second place with a height of 17-00.75.
Seaman and the rest of the Bulldogs will compete in their final meet this weekend before the Southern Conference Outdoor Championships. Samford will head to Oxford, Miss., to compete in the Ole Miss Invitational Saturday, and will return home to host the Southern Conference Championships in two weeks on April 22-23, at the brand new Samford Track and Soccer Complex.
