BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford baseball program has added five signees to its 2011 recruiting class, head coach Casey Dunn announced on Thursday.
The Bulldogs have added Andres Gracia (RHP, Columbus HS, Miami, Fla.), Zeth Stone (INF, Chattanooga CC, Chattanooga, Tenn.), Luke Leeth (LHP, Huntsville HS, Huntsville, Ala.), Sam Few (1B, Aquinas HS, Augusta, Ga.) and Damon Waller (Util, Woodward Academy, Atlanta, Ga.) to this year's class.
These additions are combined with early period signees Caleb Dugas, Brandon Haarer, Jared Watson and Cole Limbaugh. This is the seventh recruiting class for the Dunn-led coaching staff, with five of the first six classes being nationally ranked recruiting classes.
Dunn feels the class will do well at Samford.
"We felt the 2010 class could be our best in terms of immediate impact in a league the caliber of the Southern Conference and those guys have come in and quickly made their mark on our program," Dunn said. "This 2011 group is a smaller group but made up of guys that can help right away. Prior to the Major League Baseball Draft in June, we will not lose many guys with a small senior class, unlike a year ago when we were losing almost our entire offense. We feel confident we have addressed our needs going forward with the type of players that will help us get better and can compete at a high level in this league."
Depending on what happens in the draft this summer, Recruiting Coordinator Tony David says there could be more additions.
"I am sure everyone is excited about their recruiting class when it is announced," David said. "We knew this could be a relatively small group and we needed to target specific areas of need and have those guys be able to help early. We could add more this summer depending on how the draft goes but we are excited about the caliber of player and people these young men are for Samford."
A detailed release on each individual signee will be released in the near future.
