Samford's Phillip Ervin and C.K. Irby were both named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team, released by Collegiate Baseball on Wednesday.
Ervin served as the team's starting center fielder throughout the season. He led the team in batting with a .371 average, while hitting 15 doubles and driving in 41 runs.
During the 2011 season, Ervin compiled the longest hitting streak in the Southern Conference this season, hitting safely in 19-straight games. Ervin was named first-team All-Southern Conference by the media, and second-team All-SoCon and All-Freshman by the league's coaches.
Irby, who was selected for the team as a relief pitcher but also saw time at third base for the Bulldogs, compiled a record of 5-1 on the season. He posted a 2.48 ERA in 36.1 innings of work in his freshman season.
Irby held opponents to a .186 batting average in 2011. He struck out 35 batters in 22 appearances, including two starts on the mound. Irby was named to the Southern Conference's All-Freshman team by the league's coaches.
