Box Score

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- Samford (4-16, 0-3 SoCon) fell in the final game of the weekend's three-game series against Georgia Southern (13-7, 3-0 SoCon), as the Eagles earned the 12-3 victory in six innings. Bulldog Field couldn't contain the ball Sunday, as the teams combined for six home runs.

Each team threw two pitchers, as Sarah Purvis (7-3) earned her second win of the weekend, while Misha Aldridge (2-9) took her second loss. Madison Dickey went 2-3 at the plate, hitting two solo home runs. Shelby Scott earned the team's third RBI and also pitched 2.1 innings on the mound, her first appearance in the circle all season.

Georgia Southern plated the first run of the game, knocking in an RBI single in the top of the first to go up 1-0, but Samford answered back in the bottom of the second as Dickey hit a leadoff homer to tie the game at 1-1.

A bases-loaded single in the top of the third would give the Eagles two more runs and three solo home runs in the top of the fourth would add three more, extending their lead to 6-1. With two outs in the fourth inning, Aldridge would leave the game and Scott would come in relief, striking out the final batter with the bases loaded. Dickey would hit her second long ball of the game in the bottom of the fourth, as another leadoff home run cut the score to 6-2.

Georgia Southern would bring in the new pitcher, Marla Thompson, to start the fifth inning. With one out, Scott would hit a hard single that just stayed fair down the third base side, allowing Kayla Shaffer to come home from second, bringing the Bulldogs within three.

The Eagles offense would come alive in the top of the sixth however, as they plated six runs to build a 12-3 lead. A 1-2-3 bottom of the sixth would give the Eagles the six-inning win.

Samford continues their season hosting a pair of mid-week matches, first facing Mississippi Valley State on Tuesday, March 13 at 4 p.m. and then playing South Alabama on Thursday, March 15 at 4 p.m.
