BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The Bulldogs took an early lead in game three versus Chattanooga, but a ten-run rally for the Lady Mocs ultimately gave them enough cushion to win by a final score of 15-5.
Samford (11-34, 4-14 SoCon) had the lead through the first two innings courtesy of some timely hitting by the Bulldogs. Seven of the nine Bulldogs in the lineup earned a hit Sunday, including a two-run double by Nicole Bobrowski and a solo homer by Madison Dickey. Chattanooga (31-14, 14-2 SoCon) charged right back with a ten-run rally in the third inning to take a 12-5 lead, ultimately earning the win in five innings. Shelby Scott (2-7) earned the loss for Samford in the circle, throwing over 100 pitches in 4.0 innings pitched. Saturday's game-one starter, Taylor Deason (18-7), earned the win for the Lady Mocs Sunday, pitching 3.2 shutout innings in relief.
Samford batted around the entire order in the bottom of the first, plating four runs to take the early 4-0 lead. Alex Adams dropped a shallow single down the line between third base and left field, scoring Surane from second to start the rally. A hard single to the right field fence by Misha Aldridge brought Adams home to make it 2-0. Later, with two on and two out, a double by Bobrowski to the left field gap brought two more runs home to extend Samford's lead to 4-0.
Chattanooga cut the lead in half in the top of the second, scoring two to make the score 4-2. In the bottom half of the inning, Dickey hit a one-out solo shot to center field, her team-leading fifth homer of the season, to make it 5-2 Samford. The potent bats of the Lady Mocs appeared in the top of the third, as they took a substantial 12-5 lead with a ten-run rally. They would add three more in the top of the fourth and the Bulldogs would not score for the remainder of the game, as the game ended after five innings with a final score of 15-5.
Next up, Samford heads to Murray, Ky., for a double header against Murray State on Wednesday, April 25 beginning at 4 p.m. CT.
