MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Samford women's basketball team shot just 25 percent in the second half, and the Bulldogs committed 23 turnovers in a 60-41 loss at Kansas State Tuesday evening at KSU's Bramlage Coliseum.

With the loss, Samford falls to 6-8 on the season. The Bulldogs played for a second-straight night, as the team played at Kansas Monday evening.

"I thought our effort was better than it was last night against Kansas," Samford head coach Mike Morris said. "Kansas State is a tough team to go against with their zone and their length. I thought we were really sloppy with the ball, so I was disappointed with our execution against their zone, but they had a lot to do with that, because they are a very good defensive team."

Sophomore guard Hannah Nichols led Samford in scoring with 12 points. Junior center Taylor Reece scored eight points, while freshman forward Destiney Elliott added six points for the Bulldogs.

Shaelyn Martin led Kansas State with 10 points. Ashia Woods scored nine points for the Wildcats. Breanna Lewis, Brianna Craig and Haley Texada added eight points each for KSU.

After Samford took an early lead with a basket by Reece, Kansas State went on an 8-2 run to take an 8-4 lead with 15:05 left in the first half after a three-pointer by Craig. Samford fought back to close to within one point at 12-11 with 8:50 left in the half after a three-pointer by Amara Mayers.

The Bulldogs tied the score at 16-16 with 4:24 to go in the first half after a three-pointer by Brittany Stevens. Kansas State outscored Samford 9-4 for the remainder of the half, and the Wildcats took a 25-20 lead into the locker room at halftime.

On Samford's first possession of the second half, Reece hit a jumper to cut the KSU lead to three points at 25-22 with 19:50 to go in the game. Kansas State, however, took control of the game with an 18-0 run to take a 43-22 lead with 14:05 to go following a three-point play by Woods.

Samford came back to close to within 15 points at 45-30 with 10:31 left in the game after a three-point play by Krista Stricklin. Kansas State answered with a 7-0 run to push its lead out to 22 points at 52-30 with 8:43 to go after a three-pointer by Texada. Samford could get no closer than 19 points the rest of the way as Kansas State came away with the 60-41 win.

For the game, Samford made 30.8 percent of its shots overall and 26.7 percent from three-point range. KSU shot 37.7 percent overall and 35.0 percent from beyond the arc. Samford won the rebounding battle, 33-30.

Samford will return to action on Jan. 5, when the Bulldogs play host to AUM. The game is scheduled for an 11:30 a.m. start from the Pete Hanna Center.
