NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Samford University soccer team suffered its first road defeat in three weeks Sunday as the Bulldogs dropped a 2-0 decision against the Lipscomb Lady Bisons in a non-conference contest held at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.

"Lipscomb played a great match tonight," said Samford head coach Todd Yelton. "I give full credit to their players and staff. They certainly deserved the win. With a young squad, it is my responsibility to have my team prepared for the match. Obviously, I didn't do that."

With the loss, Samford (4-4) dropped to 3-2 on the road this season. Heading into Sunday's matchup with Lipscomb (5-3-1), the Bulldogs were in the midst of a three-match road winning streak, which included consecutive victories against No. 18-ranked Auburn, 2-1, Jacksonville State, 3-2, and Georgia State, 2-1.

Before Sunday's setback against the Lady Bisons, Samford's only other road defeat on the season was a hard-fought 2-0 decision at No. 14 South Carolina.

Lipscomb's goals were both scored by Ellen Lundy in the second half of play Sunday. In the 69th minute of action, the Lady Bisons' sophomore native of Rogers, Ark., knocked home the game-winning goal off a crossing pass from Anna Lail. Her initial score of the contest proved to be her third of the 2014 season.

Just over 12 minutes later, Lundy tallied her second goal of the night and gave Lipscomb its decisive 2-0 advantage. On the play, Lundy fired the unassisted shot from 30 yards out that found the back of Samford's net.

The Bulldogs were outshot by Lipscomb, 11-4, in the first half of play, but Samford rebounded to even the total at 4-4 in the final stanza.

True freshman goalkeeper Anna Maddox registered seven saves before being replaced by Melissa Montgomery in the 83rd minute of action.

Lipscomb defeated Samford for the first time in school history.

The Samford University soccer team will next be in action Friday at 7 p.m. (CDT) as the Bulldogs close out their current three-match road swing against the Austin Peay Lady Govs in a meeting of former Ohio Valley Conference rivals to be held in Clarksville, Tenn.
