Karel Hamilton was named first team STATS FCS All-American and sophomore quarterback
Devlin Hodges was named third team All-American, when STATS released its postseason teams Tuesday morning.
This marks the third All-America team for Hamilton, as he was earlier named to postseason teams by the Associated Press and the American Football Coaches Association. Hodges was also named All-American by the Associated Press earlier this month.
For the season, Hamilton caught 111 passes for 1,389 yards and 14 touchdowns. Hamilton led the nation in receptions per game (10.1), and he ranks second in the nation in receiving yards per game (126.3), and fourth in total receiving yards (1,389).
Hamilton currently holds single-season Samford records for receptions (111) and receiving yards (1,389). He also holds school career records for receptions (279) and receiving yards (3,803), and he has tied the career record for touchdown receptions (31).
Hodges completed 375-of-530 passes for 4,088 yards and 36 touchdowns. He ranks second in the nation in total offense per game (359.2), and he ranks third nationally in passing yards (4,088), passing yards per game (340.7), passing touchdowns (36) and points responsible for (240).
Currently, Hodges holds Samford single-season records for passing yards (4,088), pass attempts (530), pass completions (375), completion percentage (70.8), touchdown passes (36), total offense (4,310) and most offensive plays (641), and he tied for the record for most touchdowns responsible for (40). Hodges also holds single-game school records for total offense (513 vs. Mississippi State) and most offensive plays (86 vs. Mississippi State).
This season, Samford finished with a record of 7-5 overall and 5-3 in Southern Conference play. The Bulldogs reached the NCAA Division I-FCS Playoffs for the first time since 2013.
