SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Samford University soccer team opened its 2016 Southern Conference schedule in demonstrative fashion Friday as the Bulldogs rolled to a 5-0 road victory against the Wofford Terriers in a league-opening matchup held at Snyder Field.

With the victory,
Samford (5-2-2, 1-0 SoCon) remained undefeated in its conference opener for a sixth-consecutive season. Since 2011, the Bulldogs have registered a 4-0-2 record in their league-opening contests. During the stretch, Samford has defeated
Wofford (2-8, 0-1 SoCon), Furman, Chattanooga and Georgia Southern, while playing to draws against Elon and Georgia Southern in 2011 and 2013, respectively.

The Bulldogs also remained undefeated against Wofford in its all-time series. Since 2003, Samford has compiled an 8-0-3 record versus the Terriers, including seven-consecutive victories dating back to 2010.

Samford struck for four first-half goals Friday, the first coming just 43 seconds into the match. Senior forward
Jermaine Seoposenwe tallied two of the Bulldogs' five scores in the contest, while fellow senior
Malcanisha Kelley assisted on three of the goals.

Seoposenwe, who competed in the 2016 Olympic Games for her home country of South Africa this summer, quickly lit up the scoreboard Friday with her team-leading fifth goal of the season in the first minute. On the Bulldogs' opening possession of the match, Kelley sent a perfectly-placed forwarding pass up ahead to Seoposenwe, who neatly headed it over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

Seoposenwe's early goal set the tone for the evening. Samford outshot the Terriers, 24-4, including a 15-2 clip in the first half. Additionally, 13 of the Bulldogs' shot attempts proved to be on-goal, while Wofford finished with one.

Samford's second goal of the evening occurred in the 11
th minute and was also assisted by Kelley. Borman gathered a through-pass from her senior teammate and beat goalkeeper Mayson Liner to the right corner of the goal. Borman's score proved to be her fourth of the season and the 13
th of her career.

The Bulldogs' next two goals were tallied by first-year players and marked the first of their Samford careers.

Sophomore transfer
Korrie Sauder found the back of the net with a pretty goal in the 36
th minute, while true freshman
Erin Bonner notched her first of the year in the 44
th minute. Sauder assisted on Bonner's goal upping her point total on the night to three.

Samford's final goal of the match occurred in the 18
th minute of the second half as both Kelley and Borman assisted on Seoposenwe's second score of the evening. Seoposenwe notched her sixth goal of the season following bang-bang passes from Kelley and Borman to beat the back line.

Once one-v-one with the goalkeeper, Seoposenwe faked to her left and then sent an easy shot back to the right that effortlessly found the corner of the net. The goal upped Samford's decisive lead to 5-0 over Wofford.

Junior
Anna Maddox started in goal for the Bulldogs and played the entire first half. With her win, she remained perfect on the season and improved to 4-0 on the year.

Katie Peters, Samford's native of Greenfield, Indiana, entered the match at halftime and logged shutout play in the final 45 minutes of action. Peters saved a sure goal early in the second half as she laid out in a full dive to rob Katie Beuerlein of her team-leading fourth score of the season.

The Samford University soccer team will next be in action Sunday at 1 p.m. (CDT) as the Bulldogs conclude their two-game league road trip with a high-profile showdown against the first-place Furman Paladins to be held at the Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium.
