BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford Bulldog Club held its Third-Annual Samford Classic fundraiser Monday at Shoal Creek Club in Birmingham.
"The Samford Classic is one of the most important fund-raising events for Samford Athletics each year, and we are thrilled with the turnout again this year," Samford Director of Athletics
Martin Newton said. "The funds raised at this event allow us to provide our student-athletes and coaches with the resources they need to be successful. I want to thank Shoal Creek, our presenting sponsor, Alabama Power and all those that participated in the tournament, as well as the over 100 volunteers that make this a great event."
The Samford Classic is Samford Athletics' largest fund-raising event each year. This year's Samford Classic raised an event-record of over $225,000, which will be used to benefit Samford's 17 athletic teams.
This year's tournament featured a sold-out field of 72 players, many of whom are executives and owners of local and area businesses. Each year the Samford Classic benefits one of Samford's 10 academic schools. The 2017 beneficiary of the Classic is the Orlean Beeson School of Education, which received a gift of $2,500. .
At the conclusion of the event a banquet was held at Shoal Creek, where the tournament awards were presented.
