CHARLESTON, S.C. -- For the second straight outing, the Samford University soccer team was forced to overcome an early 1-0 deficit against a tough Southern Conference opponent. This time, the Bulldogs rallied back with scores from senior Jermaine Seoposenwe and sophomore Erin Bonner to defeat The Citadel Bulldogs, 2-1, and register their school record-tying 10th straight win.

Sunday's contest was held at the Washington Light Infantry (WLI) Field.

With its hard-fought victory, Samford (11-5-1, 7-0 SoCon) extended its winning streak to 10 consecutive matches and upped its undefeated streak to 11 straight outings. The Bulldogs' winning streak tied the school record, which has now been achieved three times in history.

The first time Samford won 10 straight matches was in 2011, while the Bulldogs equaled the feat last season. Also in 2011, they set the school record with a 14-match undefeated streak.

This season, since playing to a 1-1 home draw with Georgia on Sept. 8, the Bulldogs have rattled off consecutive victories against Western Kentucky, 1-0, UC Davis, 1-0, Saint Mary's (CA), 1-0, Western Carolina, 1-0, ETSU, 2-0, Chattanooga, 3-1, UNCG, 2-0, VMI, 4-0, Mercer, 3-1, and The Citadel (5-10, 0-7 SoCon).

During the stretch, Samford is outscoring its opponents by a total of 19-3.

On Sunday, The Citadel jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 30th minute of play as Logan Dix tallied her third goal of the season. On the unassisted score, Dix cleaned up a loose ball in the box and was able to sneak a shot into the back of the net.

The Citadel nearly took its 1-0 advantage into halftime, but Samford was able to answer with a penalty kick goal from Seoposenwe in the 41st minute of action. The Bulldogs were fouled in the box by The Citadel and Seoposenwe was selected to attempt the penalty kick.

With her conversion, Seoposenwe's goal proved to be her 10th of the season, as well as the Samford-record 36th of her career. Seoposenwe is also a perfect 11-for-11 on penalty kick attempts in her collegiate career.

Nearly midway through the second half, with the overall score of the match tied at 1-1, the Bulldogs' Bonner proved to be the hero as she scored the game-winning goal in the 63rd minute. The score, Bonner's third of the season, occurred as she rifled home a shot in the box following a deflected cross.

Bonner's tally at exactly 62:50 in the match proved to be decisive score as Samford's defense was able to clamp down and only allow one The Citadel shot attempt in the second half.

Samford outshot The Citadel, 23-5, and won the corner kick battle, 6-0.

The Bulldogs have only allowed a total of five goals in their last 13 matches dating back to Aug. 27. During the stretch, Samford has outscored its opponents by a total of 26-5.

Samford, which has won three straight SoCon titles, is in the midst of a 17-match winning streak against conference opponents. The Bulldogs have not been defeated by a SoCon rival since Sept. 25, 2016, when they were topped at Furman, 3-2.

The Samford University soccer team will next be in action Friday at 7 p.m. (CT) as the Bulldogs return home to Birmingham, Alabama, for a highly-anticipated Senior Night showdown against the Wofford Terriers to be held at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium.

Prior to the match, Samford's senior class comprised of Abriella Argueta, Anna Maddox, Virginia McNeill, Kaitlyn Orman and Seoposenwe will be honored with a special Senior Night presentation.
