GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Samford's Courtney Prengaman turned in a tremendous leap of 1.73 meters on Saturday to win the championship title in the high jump at the talent-laden 2017 Florida Relays held at historic Percy Beard Track.
Once again, the Florida Relays proved to be one of the preeminent meets in the nation as the multi-day event consisted of the best track and field athletes in the country.
Samford's Prengaman claimed the title in the high jump Saturday by posting a mark of 1.73 meters. She bested the remaining members of the elite field, which all finished at 1.68 meters.
The Bulldogs' Selena Popp proved to be one of the five aforementioned second-place finishers in the high jump. Samford and Kennesaw State were the only schools in the event to notch a pair of top-two finishers.
Prengaman, only a junior, turned in the Bulldogs' best outing of the Florida Relays this weekend.
Samford's Arsene Guillorel competed in the 10,000-meter run Saturday at the Stanford Invitational and earned a third-place finish in the event. The Bulldogs' uber-talented long-distance runner posted a time of 28:51.75 in the competition and trailed only Edward Cheserek of Oregon and Robert Brandt of California.
Cheserek and Brandt finished with times of 28:46.48 and 28:48.38, respectively.
Samford's Keyth Fightmaster competed in the 2017 Texas Relays on Saturday and earned a fifth-place finish in the high jump. Fightmaster, the Bulldogs' junior standout from Calhoun, Georgia, tallied a height of 2.15 meters on his third attempt of the third progression.
Trey Culver of Texas Tech proved to be the only competitor to achieve a height of 2.24 meters in the event, while USC's Randall Cunningham and Jeron Robinson (unattached) notched marks of 2.21 meters.
The Samford University track and field team will next be in action this weekend, Friday and Saturday, as the Bulldogs travel down to Auburn, Alabama, for the 2017 War Eagle Classic, which will be held at Auburn University.
