BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Nearly 15 minutes into the second half of action Thursday, the Samford University soccer team and the No. 4-ranked Florida State Seminoles were deadlocked at 1-1 in a well-played contest held at the nearly-packed Samford Track and Soccer Stadium. Florida State then erupted for a trio of late goals from Deyna Castellanos, Natalia Kuikka and Dallas Dorosy to earn the 4-2 non-conference victory.
Â
Samford (0-3) used a 10
th minute goal in the first half from true freshman
Lexi Orman to even the contest at 1-1. The match proved to be a back-and-forth affair until midway through the second period when the nationally-ranked
Seminoles (3-0) found the net three times in a span of 24:08.
Â
The Bulldogs' second goal of the night was tallied by junior
Grace Packer, who rifled home a shot from nearly 30 yards out in the final minute of action.
Â
Florida State's opening score occurred just 2:36 into the match off of the foot of Megan Connolly, her third of the season.
Â
Samford's initial tally from Orman, the first of her collegiate career, was assisted by both
Jermaine Seoposenwe and
Taylor Meneide. Junior
Ella Baggett notched an assist on Packer's goal.
Â
The Bulldogs' goalkeeper
Anna Maddox finished with eight saves Thursday, including a tremendous, full-length diving stop on a penalty-kick attempt from Castellanos.
