BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Nearly 15 minutes into the second half of action Thursday, the Samford University soccer team and the No. 4-ranked Florida State Seminoles were deadlocked at 1-1 in a well-played contest held at the nearly-packed Samford Track and Soccer Stadium. Florida State then erupted for a trio of late goals from Deyna Castellanos, Natalia Kuikka and Dallas Dorosy to earn the 4-2 non-conference victory.

Samford (0-3) used a 10th minute goal in the first half from true freshman Lexi Orman to even the contest at 1-1. The match proved to be a back-and-forth affair until midway through the second period when the nationally-ranked Seminoles (3-0) found the net three times in a span of 24:08.

The Bulldogs' second goal of the night was tallied by junior Grace Packer, who rifled home a shot from nearly 30 yards out in the final minute of action.

Florida State's opening score occurred just 2:36 into the match off of the foot of Megan Connolly, her third of the season.

Samford's initial tally from Orman, the first of her collegiate career, was assisted by both Jermaine Seoposenwe and Taylor Meneide. Junior Ella Baggett notched an assist on Packer's goal.

The Bulldogs' goalkeeper Anna Maddox finished with eight saves Thursday, including a tremendous, full-length diving stop on a penalty-kick attempt from Castellanos.

Samford has faced a grueling schedule to open the 2017 campaign. Last week, the Bulldogs played road matches at both Memphis and Alabama.

The Samford University soccer team will next be in action Sunday at 2 p.m. (CDT) as the Bulldogs face the Michigan State Spartans in another huge early-season matchup to be held at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium.

Admission is FREE for every home regular-season soccer match.
