KENNESAW, Ga. -- The Samford University soccer team was held scoreless for only the second time this season Sunday as the Bulldogs suffered a 1-0 road loss to the Kennesaw State Owls in a key regional non-conference matchup held at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.

With the loss, Samford (1-5-0) dropped to 0-3 in road matches this season. The Bulldogs have faced an arduous schedule this year with contests against Memphis, Alabama, No. 4 Florida State and Michigan State.

Kennesaw State (4-0-2) continued its magical run to start the season Sunday. The Owls' current stretch marks the first time Kennesaw State has been unbeaten through six games since the 2003 team opened 8-0 en route to the NCAA Division II national championship.

With Sunday's 1-0 victory over Morehead State, Kennesaw State also posted its fourth consecutive shutout, a feat accomplished for the first time since the 2009 season. The program record for consecutive shutouts is eight set by the 2003 team. The Division I record is five accomplished in 2006.

Samford outshot the Owls, 14-3, and out-tallied Kennesaw State in shots on goal, 10-1.

The Owls' lone shot on goal found the back of the net in the 39th minute of play as Ida Hepsoe lofted a running, lunging right-footed shot that skidded against the bottom of the crossbar before bouncing down and angling over the line.

The score was Hepsoe's second of the season and was assisted by Kendall Hart.

Kennesaw State's Tiffany Sornpao finished the contest with 10 saves, as 10 of the 14 shots that she faced proved to be on goal.

Samford won the corner kick battle, 11-2, but couldn't parlay that advantage into a goal. Since opening the season with a 3-0 loss at Memphis, Sunday's contest proved to be only the Bulldogs' second time being shut out this year.

The Samford University soccer team will next be in action Friday at 7 p.m. (CT) as the Bulldogs return home to Birmingham, Alabama, for a highly-anticipated matchup against the Georgia Bulldogs to be held at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium.

Admission is FREE to all home regular-season Samford soccer matches.
