TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –
Alabama plated a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a scoreless tie as the 13th-ranked Crimson Tide softball team defeated Samford, 1-0 in the final game of the Easton Crimson Classic Sunday afternoon at Rhoads Stadium.

For Samford Taylor DeCelles (3-7) pitched an impressive game, allowing just one run on four hits over 6.0 innings against the highly-ranked Crimson Tide. In five games in the Easton Crimson Classic, DeCelles posted an outstanding 1.84 ERA in 19.0 innings of work. DeCelles, senior center fielder Shelby Maze and freshman right fielder Ryan Brzozoski were all named to the All-Tournament team for the event.

Samford was led at the plate Sunday by Brzozoski, going 3-for-4. Fellow freshman Mekhi Mayfield went 2-for-4 with a double. Kathryn Jackson and Ashlyn Barnes added a hit each for Samford in the contest.

Alabama was led by senior Carrigan Fain, driving in the game's lone run in a 1-for-3 performance at the plate. Bailey Hemphill, Reagan Dykes and Claire Jenkins had one hit each for Alabama.

Courtney Gettins (7-1) pitched 6.2 innings, giving up no runs on seven hits to earn the win in the circle for the Crimson Tide. Alexis Osorio came in to get the final out of the game and pick up her third save of the season.

Samford's best scoring threat came in the top of the second inning when the Bulldogs loaded the bases with one out. Samford, however, was unable to push a run across and the game remained scoreless.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Dykes singled to lead off the inning and Elissa Brown came in to pinch run for Dykes. Brown then stole second base and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Maddie Morgan. Fain then singled up the middle to drive in Brown for the game's only run.

With the loss, Samford falls to 5-20 on the season. Alabama improves to 17-5 with the win.

Samford will host Mississippi State Tuesday, March 13. The first pitch is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start at the Samford Softball Field.
