CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The fifth-seeded Samford men's tennis team earned a thrilling 4-3 victory over fourth-seeded UNCG in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference Tournament Friday at The Champions Club.

With the win, Samford improves to 11-10 on the season. The Bulldogs advance to Saturday's semifinal round where Samford will take on top-seeded ETSU at 9 a.m. (CT). UNCG ends its season with a record of 11-11.

In Friday's match, Samford dropped the No. 1 doubles match, but came back to earn wins at No. 2 and No. 3 to pick up the first point of the match. At No. 2 doubles, Justin Ghavami and Aleksandar Petrovic defeated Logan Walker and Marcus Vidgren, 7-5. On the No. 3 doubles court, Eduardo Lourido and Max Rebol earned a 6-4 win over Jack Burkill and Ollie Palmer.

In singles, Samford picked up wins at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 to clinch the 4-3 win. The match was tied at 3-3, with the deciding point coming at No. 3 singles, where Lourido defeated Vidgren, 6-3, 6-7 (10-12), 6-3.

At No. 4 singles, Rossouw Norval defeated Nico Grewe, 6-2, 6-3, 6-2. On the No. 5 singles court, Petrovic defeated Daniel Hammarstedt, 6-0, 7-5.
