Men's Basketball Falls In OT Heart-Breaker At Wofford, 107-106

SPARTANBURG, S.C. –
The Samford men's basketball team dropped a last-second overtime heart-breaker at SoCon-leading Wofford, 107-106 Thursday evening at Richardson Indoor Stadium.
 
Wofford's Storm Murphy hit a jumper at the buzzer in overtime to give the Terriers the one-point win. The loss drops Samford's record to 12-9 overall and 2-6 in Southern Conference play. Wofford improves to 16-4 overall and 8-0 in league play.

  • Brandon Austin scored a career-high 31 points for Samford in the loss.
  • Josh Sharkey scored 19 points, and he set a school record with 16 assists.
  • Robert Allen scored 19 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
  • Ruben Guerrero had 16 points and seven rebounds, while Myron Gordon added 14 points.

  • With Samford leading, 31-24, Wofford went on a 13-5 run to take a 37-36 lead with 4:02 left in the first half.
  • Samford came back to take a 41-37 lead with 3:19 left in the opening period.
  • The Bulldogs closed the half with a 12-2 run to take a 49-43 lead into the locker room at halftime.
  • Samford opened up an 11-point lead at 54-43 with 18:11 left in the second half after a dunk by Austin.
  • Wofford came back to cut the lead to three points at 54-51 with 16:55 to play.
  • The Bulldogs pushed their lead back out to nine points at 69-60 with 12:02 to go in the game.
  • Wofford closed to within two points at 76-74 with 7:57 to go in the game.

  • With Samford leading, 93-87, Hoover hit a three-pointer with 30 seconds left to cut the lead to 93-90.
  • McGee then hit a three-pointer with eight seconds left to knot the score at 93-93 and force overtime.
  • In overtime, Samford led, 104-101, but two free throws by Hoover and a jumper by McGee gave Wofford a 105-104 advantage with 16 seconds left.
  • Sharkey then hit a layup to give Samford a 106-105 lead with four ticks left on the clock.
  • Murphy then hit his jumper at the buzzer to give the Terriers the 107-106 win.
