BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's basketball team got off to a hot start on its way to a 72-60 win over in-state rival Troy Saturday afternoon in the Pete Hanna Center.

With the win, Samford improves to 4-3 on the season. Troy falls to 1-5 with the loss.

DeAndre Thomas led Samford with a career-high 21 points.
Jalen Dupree had 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Brandon Austin added 11 points for the Bulldogs.
Josh Sharkey dished out 14 assists, to go along with his eight points.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

Samford started the game off hot, racing out to a 22-2 lead with 13:02 left in the first half after a dunk by Dupree.
Troy fought back to cut the lead to 12 points at 27-15 with 6:32 left in the opening half.
Samford took a 43-22 advantage into the locker room at halftime.
Samford led by as many as 27 points in the second half at 62-35 with 10:18 to go.
Troy used a late run to cut the lead to 12 points at 70-58, but Samford was able to pull out the 72-60 win.
