BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Samford sophomore place kicker
Mitchell Fineran was named a finalist for the Fred Mitchell Outstanding Place Kicker Award when the 10 finalists were announced Monday.
The Fred Mitchell Award honors a place-kicker for excellence on the football field for the 2019 season and for continued community service during their collegiate careers. The recipient of the award will be announced in mid-December. Details are provided at

For the season, Fineran scored a team-high 91 points. He made 46 of his 47 extra-point attempts. He was also 15-of-21 on field goals. He made a long kick of 45 yards and was 3-of-4 on kicks ranging from 40 to 49 yards.
Fineran has also been heaily involved in community service during his time at Samford. His community service included volunteering for the Exceptional Foundation, Birmingham, volunteering at Magic City Woodworks, Birmingham, serving as a Samford Student-Athlete Mentor at Goodyear Elementary and serving as a Habitat for Humanity Volunteer during summers in Brunswick, Ga.
