MACON, Ga. – The Samford men's basketball team came back from an 18-point halftime deficit, but could not get over the hump as the Bulldogs dropped a 65-62 decision at Mercer Thursday evening at Hawkins Arena.
With the loss, Samford falls to 16-12 overall and 6-9 in Southern Conference play. Mercer improves to 10-17 overall and 5-10 in league contests.

- Josh Sharkey led Samford with 24 points and four assists in the loss.
- With the four assists, Sharkey now has 514 in his career, tying the school career record, set by Christen Cunningham from 2014-17.
- Robert Allen had seven points and 13 rebounds, while Ruben Guerrero finished with seven points and 12 rebounds for the Bulldogs.
- Mercer was led by Ross Cummings with 23 points.
- Ethan Stair had 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Bears.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Mercer got off to a hot start, racing out to an 8-0 lead with 17:59 to go in the first half.
- After Samford cut the lead to 8-4, Mercer went on another 8-0 run to push its lead to 16-4 with 15:04 left in the opening period.
- The Bears led by as many as 21 points in the first half at 32-11 with 4:32 left in the period.
- Mercer took a 38-20 lead into the locker room at halftime.
- Samford cut the lead to 12 points at 41-29 with 16:15 left after a three-point play by Sharkey.
- After Mercer pushed the lead back out to 15 at 44-29, Samford went on a 12-2 run to cut the lead to five at 46-41 with 9:28 left in the second half after a pair of free throws by Sharkey.
- The Bears pushed the lead back out to eight points at 52-44 with 7:26 to go.
- Samford closed the lead to two points at 52-50 with 6:34 left after a layup by Sharkey.
- Mercer, however, scored the next five points to take a 57-50 lead with 5:27 to go in the game.
- With Mercer leading, 62-54, Samford went on an 8-1 run to cut the lead to just one point at 63-62 with 10 seconds to go.
- Mercer, however, hit a couple of free throws down the stretch to hold on for the 65-62 victory.
