CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Samford softball team was eliminated from the Southern Conference Tournament in a 5-2, eight-inning contest with ETSU Thursday evening at Frost Stadium.
Samford ends the season with a mark of 23-31. ETSU improves to 22-26-2. The Bucs advance to Friday's round where they will take on Mercer-Western Carolina winner at 2 p.m.
FROM THE BOX SCORE
- Merritt Cahoon went 2-for-2 with a run scored to lead Samford at the plate.
- Maddie Dorsett and Kathryn Jackson drove in a run each for the Bulldogs.
- Taylor DeCelles (7-12) pitched 1.0 inning, giving up three runs on three hits to take the loss in the circle for Samford.
- Kelly Warren led ETSU at the plate, going 3-for-5 with an RBI.
- Mallorree Schurr went 2-for-4 for the Bucs.
- Taylor Boling (9-11) pitched 8.0 innings, giving up two runs on eight hits to earn the win for ETSU.
SCORING SUMMARY
- Samford plated the first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning. Cahoon scored when Dorsett reached base on a fielder's choice to give Samford a 1-0 lead.
- ETSU knotted the score in the top of the fourth inning when Taylor Wright hit a solo home run to center field to make the score 1-1.
- The Bucs took the lead with a run in the top of the seventh inning. Julia Fritz singled up the middle to drive in Jordan Durbin to give ETSU a 2-1 lead.
- Samford tied the score with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Jackson singled to second base, driving in Ryan Brzozoski to knot the score at 2-2 and force extra innings.
- ETSU scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to take a 5-2 lead. Anissa Avila scored the first run when Lauren Lee walked with the bases loaded. Warren then singled, driving in Vanessa Elliott, and Schurr scored on the throw for a three-run ETSU lead.
