STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Samford men's tennis team opened the 2020 spring season with a 6-0 loss at 21
st-ranked Mississippi State Saturday evening.
"The boys competed well today against one of the top teams on our schedule," Samford head coach
Rahim Esmail said. "Mississippi State is a very accomplished team - they have won the SEC Championships the past two seasons and they know how to compete at a very high level. This was a great experience for our young team early in the season. I'm proud of the way we competed on every court and as a team. It is exciting to see the growth in our players who have been a part of our program, as well as the potential that our newcomers have."
The teams did not play doubles, but Mississippi State claimed wins in all six singles matches. The matchup at No. 3 singles went to three sets, with Samford's
Mohammed Ali Bellalouna falling to MSU's Alberto Sanchez, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
Samford will host Presbyterian Monday at 12 p.m.
