BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team picked up a 6-1 win over Arkansas State Saturday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 2-1 on the young season. Arkansas State is 0-1 with the loss.
 
Samford earned the doubles point with wins on all three courts.
 
In singles, Samford won at No. 1, No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 to earn the 6-1 win. At No. 1 singles, Rouxanne Janse Van Rensburg defeated Pornpawee Pramethong, 6-1, 6-3. On the No. 3 singles court, Elsa Pool defeated Berta Masdevall Masip, 7-5, 6-3. At No. 4, Natalia De Ugarte earned a 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 win over Shannon O'Brien.
 
At No. 5 singles, Cindy Oest defeated Jill Morse, 6-3, 6-4. On the No. 6 singles court, Arianna Beltrame defeated Amelia Guevremont, 6-2, 6-2.
 
Samford will host Kennesaw State next Sunday, Feb. 2, at 12 p.m. at the Samford Tennis Center. Admission to the match is FREE.
