TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Samford women's basketball team opened the 2020-21 season with an 83-68 loss at Alabama Wednesday afternoon at Coleman Coliseum.
Samford is 0-1 with the loss, while Alabama improves to 1-0 with the victory.
FROM THE BOX SCORE
- Natalie Armstrong led Samford with a double-double, scoring 25 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
- Shauntai Battle followed with 21 points for the Bulldogs.
- Annie Ramil had seven points and six rebounds, while Raven Omar added seven points and five assists.
- Jasmine Walker led Alabama with 22 points and seven rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first quarter, Alabama jumped out to an early 15-7 lead with 7:04 to play in the period after a three-point play by Megan Abrams.
- With Samford trailing, 17-10, the Bulldogs went on an 8-2 run to cut the lead to one point at 19-18 with 2:52 left in the quarter following a three-pointer by Mallory Hampton.
- Alabama, however, closed the quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 28-18 lead at the end of the first period.
- Samford cut the lead to six points at 33-26 with 7:20 to go in the second quarter after a three-pointer by Battle
- Alabama built a 16-point lead at 47-31 late in the second quarter and the Crimson Tide took a 47-33 lead into the locker room at halftime.
- Samford opened the third quarter on an 8-2 run to cut the lead to 49-41 with 6:49 left in the period after a jumper by Ramil.
- Alabama pushed its lead back out to 10 points at 55-45, and held a 58-49 lead at the end of the third quarter.
- In the fourth quarter, Alabama opened up a 17-point lead at 74-57 with 4:13 to go after a three-pointer by De'Sha Benjamin.
- Samford cut the lead to 14 points twice down the stretch, but could get no closer as Alabama came away with the 83-68 win.
