BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's basketball team picked up a 76-51 win over the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers Thursday afternoon in the Pete Hanna Center.
With the win, Samford improves to 2-6 on the season. The game counted as an exhibition contest for UAH.
FROM THE BOX SCORE
- Katie Allen led Samford with 20 points, making 7-of-10 shots from the floor and 6-of-8 from three-point range.
- Natalie Armstrong posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
- Annie Ramil followed with 12 points for Samford.
- Raven Omar dished out a career-high nine assists in the win.
- UAH was led by Alexis Woods with a game-high 18 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Samford scored the first five points of the game, all by Armstrong, to take an early 5-0 advantage with 8:24 to play in the first quarter.
- UAH answered with an 8-0 run to take an 8-5 lead at the 6:43 mark in the first period following a three-pointer by Selena Pruitt.
- With Samford trailing, 12-11, the Bulldogs closed the first quarter on a 15-0 run to take a 26-12 lead at the end of the first period.
- UAH opened the second quarter with a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 26-19 with 6:54 left in the period after a layup by Adrian Grant.
- Samford pushed the lead back to 12 points at 34-22 with 1:30 left in the second quarter after a layup by Ramil.
- The Bulldogs took a 36-25 lead into the locker room at halftime.
- Back-to-back UAH three-pointers to open the third quarter cut the lead to just five points at 36-31 with 8:27 left in the period.
- Samford pushed the lead back out to nine points at 40-31 with 7:42 left in the third quarter after a layup by Andrea Cournoyer.
- The Bulldogs held a 51-38 lead at the end of the third quarter.
- Samford pushed its lead out to 21 points at 64-43 with 6:52 left in the game after a layup by Audra Leipold.
- Samford led by as many as 26 points in the fourth quarter, and the Bulldogs finished with a 76-51 win.
